I have been waiting for years to be able to do a search with an emphasis on the sites that are in my Bookmarks.
Finally it is possible with Google Custom Search and Google Bookmarks.
This article inspired me :
Google Custom Search: Custom Search Engine APIs
Right now, it is not synchronize : if I add a bookmark, I will had to add it to my CSE too. But I bet it won't be long before Google makes it dead easy to have a CSE synchronized with your Bookmarks.
So for thoses interested, I simply :
- exported my Google Bookmarks,
- open the page in Firefox
- right clic to have the Page info
- clic on the Links tab
- select only the link column (clic on the rightmost little column)
- select all, copy
- create a new CSE and paste the url list into the text area.
Your done

Software Development Trends for 2007
Interesting article from Manageability : Software Development Trends for 2007.
Notably : he points out Piggy Bank and OpenId, that are not so well known.
I think Google will play an important role too as well as VoIP interoperability like OpenWengo pushes.
XML may slow down at least in the configuration space, where there are alternatives (like using Groovy). and I hope that Relax-NG will be chosen more often instead of XML-Schema !

Characterizing People as Non-Linear, First-Order Components in Software Development
Alistair Cockburn has reviewed three dozen projects and methodologies over 20 years. I quote his conclusions :
Form : 9 pages (I had to copy and paste the whole text in OpenOffice in order to get a readable printout !)

- We are sensitive to communication timing and modalities. The prediction is that physical proximity and ease of communication has dominant effect.
- People tend to inconsistency. The prediction is that methodologies requiring disciplined consistency are fragile in practice.
- People vary, not just daily, but from group to group. Methodologies don't currently, but do need to deal with this cultural variation.
- People like to be good citizens, are good at looking around and taking initiative. These combine to form that common success factor, "a few good people stepped in at key moments."
